How far is San Jose del Cabo (SJD) International airport in Baja California Sur, Mexico to Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa Hotel?

It is a 30 to 40-minute drive each way. There are two roads - the toll highway or the coastal highway.

Do I need to rent a car?

You will need to rent a car if you want to travel outside of Cabo San Lucas and do not want to book a tour.

I encourage you to contact others and see if you want to share the car rental expenses. It all depends which day you arrive and depart. Parking at the hotel is free. Pay for parking in downtown Cabo San Lucas and the marina. 

When it would be nice to have a car:

Arrival - need ride from the airport to hotel 

Do your own sight seeing and eating out before and after the party weekend.

Departure - need ride from hotel to the airport 

When you won't need a car:

Friday: Dinner at the hotel where we are all staying 

Saturday: Breakfast in our room, and transportation will be provided for everyone from hotel to The Office for dinner and back to hotel

Sunday: Breakfast in our room, and transportation will be provided for everyone from hotel to the Marina for the whale watching excursion and back to the hotel. Dinner at the hotel where we are all staying. 

Rent a car from Alamo - they are giving our guests a discount and you are free to shop and compare. Alamo  includes full insurance, taxes and fees. They are open 7 days from 6am-11pm. If you only want to rent a car for the day, Villa del Palmar has car rentals on the premise.

There are other transportation companies that provide car service. Feel free to do some research for the best prices.  

Are food and drinks included?

Sharon's party will provide breakfast Saturday and Sunday morning and dinner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. Alcohol drinks are not included.

The property does offer an all-inclusive package rate, but we do not encourage you to get the inclusive package as we are already providing five meals.

If you do choose to purchase the all-inclusive package, it must be purchased for a minimum of 3 consecutive days staying at the hotel and must be acquired by every person staying in the room and in your party. It is $110.00 per night per person for the all-inclusive meals and drinks package. 

What kind of amenities are provided in the room and at the hotel?

The electricity outlets is 110/120 volts which is the same in USA, so you do not need to bring a converter. 

The room includes a kitchen with a refrigerator, electric stove, microwave oven, dishes, glassware, utensils, cookware, blender, toaster, and a coffee maker. There is a hair blow dryer, safe deposit box, iron and iron board, air conditioning and ceiling fan.  Full maid service provided daily except for no dish washing.

There is a Palmita Market & Deli on the hotel property as well as a bakery, ice cream parlor, and coffee shop. There are restaurants at the property: California Bella, Taco Bar, Sushi Bar, Farm to Table Tomatillo's, and a Sports Bar. The property also has a fitness center, and tennis court. Pickle ball court is available for a fee. Wi-Fi is available at an additional charge.

There are three outdoor pools, kids wading pool and two outdoor jacuzzis and a whale water slide.

There is free parking at Villa del Palmar if you rent a car.

Do I have to make a deposit to reserve my room?

Yes, there is a non-refundable deposit equivalent to one night's rate for your full stay at Villa Del Palmar.

Can I stay at a different hotel?

No, due to limited transportation services and due to a majority of the events occurring at Villa Del Palmar, it wouldn't be worthwhile staying at another location.

Does Villa del Palmar accept cash?

The hotel does not carry cash or credit card machine - when you pay your bill for food and drinks, it automatically charges your room.  Yes, if you are rooming with others, you may use your own credit card for your charges. Just let the front desk know when you check in.

What is the weather like in Cabos in January?

We cannot guarantee the weather as it's up to Mother Nature, but we have been to Cabos in January three times and from our experience it is typically 80s during the day and a chilly 60s in the evening.

Do I need to bring my Passport to Mexico?

Yes, Cabo San Lucas is in Mexico, and you will need a valid Passport (that does not expire before August 2021).

Within 30 days of your flight, please refer to www.mexicotouristcard.com to prepare your Mexico Tourist Card at home. Be sure to print it on double-sided paper, not two pages. 

When entering Mexico, you will have your Mexico Tourist Card validated. Do not lose this card as you must present it to the border agent when exiting Mexico. If you lose it, there will be a fee of $60.00 USD to replace it. 

On your flight to SJD, the flight attendants will pass out a customs declaration form that you need to fill out for customs purposes.

Can I bring children?

No, to maintain peace and serenity, this event is strictly adults only. Thank you for your understanding.

Can two adults fit on a sofabed?

The sofabeds are in Queen size so two adults can fit on it.

Mexican Peso vs US Dollars

US dollars are accepted pretty much everywhere as well as credit cards except for several restaurants and vendors. When you use your credit card, they will ask you if you want to charge with Pesos or US dollars. However, most credit card companies will charge an international transaction fee; be sure to check with your bank for info regarding this.

Do you recommend Travel Insurance?

Highly recommend to have travel insurance and health insurance for every trip you take as an prevention. It is a lot cheaper than paying for it out of our pocket for any emergency situations.

Dolphin Excursion

There are two different places where you can swim with the Dolphins. The difference is in Cabo San Lucas is called Cabo Adventures and the water is a pool. San Jose del Cabo’s Puerto Marina is Dolphin Discovery and the water is in the ocean.

Sunday Excursion to Whale Watching

The whale watching season is very active from January to March. It would be fun having everyone together on the boat. We will see the famous iconic Arch, Lovers Beach, Divorce Beach, sea lions and maybe whales, and dolphins!
